Sir Graham Brady - Paint Altrincham Pink

The recent initiative to help raise funds and awareness of Breast Cancer by Prevent Breast Cancer; Paint Altrincham Pink, was a great success, engaging 65 businesses in total and 3 schools in fundraising for vital breast cancer prevention research. The current figure for amount raised is over £10,000!

The organisations who managed to raise the most funds were:

  • Altrincham Grammar School for Boys (£1300)
  • Storm Ice Hockey (£1095)
  • BT Fitness (£900) –
  • Altrincham Grammar School for Girls (£745)
  • BrightNewMe (£658) –
  • South Manchester Business Association (£540) matched by a gentleman who attended the event for £200, so £740 in total

Despite the very poor weather during the week and a two-day snowstorm at the weekend, we had a number of successful events, including:

  • Pink Week at Altrincham Grammar School for Boys
  • ‘Tits Up’ play featuring the life stories of two breast cancer survivors held at Gran-T’s Coffee Shop
  • A networking event arranged by the South Manchester Business Association
  • Storm players’ bucket collection and a pink theme at the Storm final match of the season, including a puck drop from Sally Dynevor
  • Social at Timperley Sports Club and pink training days throughout the week
  • Pink Party at Altrincham FC

Sadly we had to cancel were the activities at the Market during the latter part of Saturday and whole of Sunday due to the poor weather.

Pink products and special offers were on sale at 15 different businesses, with portions of proceeds donated to the charity. Some examples of this are:

  • Pink ukulele sale at Dawson’s Music
  • Beetroot Lattes on sale at Two Brothers Coffee
  • A number of businesses selling pink cakes including Gran T’s Coffee House and Rocket and Orange
  • Pink smoothie at Eat:Kaizen
  • Cancer Fighting Specials at Oxford Road Café
  • 5% of sales proceeds for the week donated from Vintage Angel

The event was so successful that we plan to run it again next year. The provisional dates for next year’s activities are W/C 18-22nd March 2019.
