Adele Hankinson, pictured here on the right, has been a popular figure at The Best Western Cresta Court Hotel in Altrincham for 17 years.  In charge of managing a team delivering hundreds of meetings, weddings, banquets and festive celebrations each year, Adele’s role brings her into contact with everyone from busy conference bookers and PAs planning the office Christmas party, to local charity event organisers and Altrincham’s blushing brides. In this edition of A Coffee With… she tells Altrincham Chamber about her role.


What type of coffee do you mostly go for, and how do you take it?

I like a latte.  As we start to plan for our Christmas events, I love adding a little festive twist with some cinnamon syrup…maybe a sneaky gingerbread on the side.  I love everything about Christmas; the parties, the presents and turkey with stuffing, and the smell of the cinnamon in my coffee always makes me get into the festive spirit!


What was your inspiration to ‘wake up and smell the coffee’ when it came to joining the Hotel?

I started my role here part-time several years ago when my children were still in education, so a little caffeine was great to kick-start my busy day balancing being Mum and Manager!  My wake up and smell the coffee moment had to be when I realised that I really thrived on providing great service.  Everyday in a hotel is different.  You meet such interesting guests.  Delivering a great guest experience really is a pleasure to me and makes me feel just as happy as the guest.


Who makes the best coffee at work?

My great colleague Bev. She always has a coffee at the ready for me when I come into work. It sets me up for the day!


Like cake makes the perfect extra to coffee, what does your business offer that sets you apart from your competitors?

We are always told that our staff set us apart from others, with their genuine and friendly approach.  I am lucky to work with a brilliant team, and even during the busiest times, such as Christmas party season, we work together to deliver a great event.  So, it would definitely be the team and team spirit that makes us special.


Other than drinking plenty of coffee, what would you advise business owners as most important for success?

Always treat your customers right!  I try to make sure that I look after them as if they had visited my own house.  I want them to feel welcome and to have a great time with us.  Treat them well from the outset, and they will want to return time and time again.
